Here I am, getting stronger and faster and able to endure farther distances. Most days I feel pretty fast on the bike (not so much running), usually passing the few souls I see and working and going. Then today, on a slight uphill these two guys zoom right past me. Not like “hey, I’m a little bit stronger and faster than you” but “whooshing by and leaving me eating dust” sort of zoom. They are the bikers that are allowed to wear full spandex.
Someone told me today that I was fast. This was, of course, while sprinting out of a van to chase a friend down the street. He would have been had if the door had not automatically locked.
An old friend of mine invited me to a webapp he and his company are building for runners/cyclists/triathlelitists (ha ha!). It’s the social networking w/ training aspect idea. Works pretty well so far, nice to keep track of my training and also be able to add events or see what’s coming up in the area. Similar to weEndure, but not sure how much because haven’t used weEndure. Invite only currently, until lots of minor details are hammered out.
Swam yesterday a good deal, feeling strong. Slow bike today with a friend; relaxing which is what I am supposed to do today.
Not dead, still here, still working. The problem with after a couple of weeks is you start looking in the mirror, start to progress far in your workouts and start feeling really good. Then you go out immediately after work and it’s late before you get home. The next day your bike has a flat tire, the following day your at work later than you want. In short, life catches up and you take a few days off. Then you try to work again and it’s so much harder. So the next day you take off to rest.
It’s a vicious feedback loop that causes you slip and slide all the way down the blocks you’ve built up.
The advantage of going to the gym shortly before it closes is you’re forced to do what you intended more rapidly. So I swam faster and took shorter breaks than I might have otherwise.
Spring is officially here and it started off with a bright, sunny 50 degree day. The bike is in the shop getting it’s hub overhauled, so I don’t run into any problems later on. Definitely looking forward to having Good Friday off and some time to ride in the sunshine!
